Browser extension

Capture bug reports from your browser with a single keyboard shortcut. Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers.

Setup

After installing the extension, you need to configure your API key:

  1. Click the BugScreen icon in your browser toolbar and select "Settings".
  2. Enter your API key from the BugScreen console.
  3. Configure your preferences (metadata collection, page URL inclusion).
  4. Click "Save Settings".

Keyboard shortcut setup

The default keyboard shortcut is Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + B.

To customize the keyboard shortcut:

  1. Navigate to chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
  2. Find "BugScreen — Capture Bug Report".
  3. Click the pencil icon and set your preferred shortcut.

Usage

Capture with keyboard shortcut

Press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + B while on any webpage to:

  • Automatically capture a screenshot of the visible page
  • Open a bug report modal with screenshot preview
  • Collect browser and page metadata (if enabled)

Capture from popup

Click the BugScreen icon in your toolbar and select "Capture Bug Report" to capture the current tab.

Submit bug report

Once the bug report modal appears:

  1. Review the screenshot preview (click to view full size).
  2. Enter a description of the bug (required).
  3. Click "Submit Bug Report".
  4. View success message with links to created issues in your configured integrations.
Note: The extension cannot capture screenshots on restricted pages like chrome:// or edge:// URLs due to browser security policies.

What gets collected?

BugScreen automatically collects this information with each report:

  • Browser name & version
  • Operating system & version
  • Page URL & title
  • Viewport dimensions
  • Screen resolution
  • Device pixel ratio
  • User locale
  • Timezone

Privacy

The extension only captures data when you explicitly trigger a bug report. No automatic tracking or analytics are performed. You can disable metadata collection at any time in the settings. Screenshots are uploaded directly to your configured BugScreen backend with your API key.
